Green Building

he headline, “Gary Norman Homes Goes Green,” sat atop one of the featured stories in the April 2, 2008, issue of Cascade Business News – the Central Oregon business newspaper – that placed an emphasis on the environment.
And for good reason since Gary and the staff at Gary Norman Homes have blazed a green trail for a number of years now; well before it was the chic thing to do.
Not only has Gary Norman Homes been utilizing reclaimed wood and lumber from barns, snow fencing and old ships (see Barnwood, Incorporated), it has applied the same theory to many other facets of the custom homebuilding process.
Gary Norman Homes are all Earth Advantage certified and promotes the usage of the following environmentally safe and sensitive products:
• Low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints and finishes
• Flyash concrete
• Wool carpeting with jute backing
• Recycled glass in tile composition
• Sustainable pavers
• Appliances, heaters, water heaters, insulation, air conditioning
• Solar heating
The green movement has been alive and well at Gary Norman Homes for a number of years. “It’s the right thing to do,” says Norman.
